Stuart FL, Fishing Reports

Wed. Report

Fished with a good friend of mine today, Rick.  The wind was barely felt today, but we did have a little current to the north.   Lost a fish on the down line but we did manage to go 3 for 3 on sails.  Called it after a half day.   Sails are here!   Capt Matt

Sailfishing is Hot!!

Trying to catch up since last week, and the good news is sailfishing is hot! Had the pleasure of fishing with Brad Broussard of Hallandale on Tues.  Bait were goggle eyes and pilchards for the day.   We started off near Kew Biscayne and to our delight Brad fought an 18 lb cow off the flat line within 1/2 hour of setting up.  The bull hit shortly after, and went in the box. Brad fought a sail off the flat line and was released.   Saw a few frigates workin offshore,  we motored over and saw small tunas busting on the surface.  Sails were balling bait near the surface, and it was an incredible sight.   Picked up 2 blackfin tunas,   4-5 lbs each.   Caught  more dolphin and released another sail and the line parted away on another. Overall a great day with constant action!!  The sailfishing will only get better with the cold fronts.  If you want a sail,  now is the time.   Capt. Matt

Fishing Report Nov 9

Finally we had a chance to get out after the constant wind.   Richard Chase of Plantation fished with us today.   We caught bait down at Gov cut and filled the well with thredfins and pilchards.   Caught a nice 25" spanish mackeral right away to get the skunk off the boat.  The wind was hard out of the north early and was laying down as the morning progressed.  Set up in 180' and we were greeted with a 9 lb. mahi.  Richard made quick work of the cow.   Heard of some sails tailin south from the tourn boats on the radio.    While boats all around us, the flat line took off and Richard fought the sail for about 20 min.  The kite was slow as well as the deep rod today.  Called it quits after half a day.   Sails will be heading down  in numbers with the north winds blowing hard later in the week.  Give me a call and lets get out there !!   Capt. Matt

Fall Bait Migration Oct. 5

The annual fall bait run is underway.  Schools of mullet are here.  Other baitfish will continue to follow along with predators searching for them.  Kingfish, tarpon, jacks, mackeral , and sailfish will be in close pursuit looking for an easy meal.  The water is still a bit warm, reading  in the lower 80's.  Soon  as the water drops a bit, as the fronts start to arrive from the north,  fishing should get hot.  Fresh Mahi sounds great! We still have dates open for the fall frienzy. Give me a call and let's get out there.   Capt.  Matt
